4 Removal Packing Tips for Moving HouseAre you considering moving house or relocating to a new city? In this regard, while removal companies can provide the best assistance, there are many things that you are required to finish up yourself. Packing is one of such things though some people prefer to give this responsibility to the moving companies. It would not be an easy job to pack up the items as some may be fragile or soft enough to get broken easily while some may be so heavy and hard that it becomes cumbersome to pack them in a box.

Here are some of the topmost packing tips when you are considering a move:

Starting Packing Early

The earlier you start packing, the better it is to avoid the likely troubles on the removals day. It is usually good to start packing one week or a few days before. The preparation and planning of moving items should be started much earlier to avoid last minute hassle that may cause stress, irritation and other problems. It takes sufficient time to pack all the things and you do have so many things to manage on that day. You can pack large things well in advance and may leave small things to be packed on the last days.

Material to be used for Packing

You may buy packing material from a moving company such as tape, cardboard cartons, bubble wrap, marking pens, plain paper, polythene covers etc. that are usually supplied at a reasonable price. Using sturdy boxes is good for packing. You may like to purchase second hand removal cartons if you wish that can help you save money as well. Packing tape can be used for sealing the boxes properly and wall furniture items can be wrapped well. It is better to use double walled boxes that are strong enough to withstand your items inside. Things that are damaged and worn boxes should never be used which can cause your items to fall from the bottom.

Right Way of Packing

While packing your things, do make note of some of the key things in mind. Pack your items up to the top of the box and fill the void spaces with filling material such as crumpled or shredded paper. If the spaces are large, that can be covered with pillows or cushions. This helps in providing rigidity to the boxes and prevents movement of items during transport.

Boxes should never be overloaded and when you are placing heavy items together with lighter ones, keep the lighter things above the heavier ones otherwise the lighter ones are likely to break easily. The average weight of a packed box should not be more than 15 Kg. Pack items of one room at a time, for example, all kitchen items at one time and that of the living room separately. Do not pack your confidential and important documents such as your passport, ID card, travel tickets, certificates and items such as jewellery in the boxes. You should carry such items with you because keeping them along with other packing boxes in the moving van can be risky.

Labelling the Packed Boxes

Once you are done with packing the boxes, you can go ahead with labelling them so as to ensure that you recognise which item is placed in which box at the time of opening the boxes and placing the items in your new house. If it is a single item, you can write the name over it and if there are multiple items, you can write down the list of contents inside the box. You may like to mark the box containing items that are fragile in order to keep a careful watch on them. It is good to mark every box clearly to avoid confusion.
